Our Vision:

The establishment of a new research center at the University of Alexandria to:

• Enable researchers to pursue an outstanding research program, crossing the boundaries of disciplines and faculties
• Contribute positively to a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of EU-Arab and German-Egyptian relations
• Enrich and internationalize the curriculum of AU, therefore raising the interest of students in research in the framework of the master’s program in Economics and Political Science
• Create synergies that will facilitate the publication of scientific articles by both Egyptian and international students while advancing the publication of online data

Two center clusters:

1st cluster: Institutions & Development

Focus on:

• The combined study of institutions and economic development
• Economic history, political economy and comparative economic systems

Goal:

• Collection of original data from Alexandria archives
• Publishing of archives for free access on the “Trade, development and Institutions in the Mediterranean" website 

2nd cluster: Economic Policy & International Security

Focus on:

• Fiscal and monetary policy
• Redistribution of income, property and/or wealth
• Regulatory policy, anti-trust and industrial policy
• Foreign policy and international relations in the Mediterranean region and globally

Goal:

• Advancing the understanding of the complex security challenges of the 21st century and considering measures including military action and diplomatic agreements
